Mentor Spotlight: Mary Martinez

January 31, 2020

How long have you been with Williamsburg Learning, and what classes do you mentor?

I started working for Williamsburg Learning in 2015. I mentor Chemistry A and Chemistry B.

What life experiences most prepared you to be a mentor?

My time as a teacher at AMES in Salt Lake City was very helpful. I have also found that reading books that require deep introspection has also been very helpful in providing continual personal growth.

What do you love most about mentoring? Is there a specific moment from class this year that exemplified this for you?

I love it when students tell me that now they understand chemistry. My favorite comment in the chatbox this year has been “Oooooohhh…”

Tell us a little more about your life!

I enjoy reading, and love curling up with my kids to read a good book. Right now we are working through the Mary Poppins books by P.L. Travers as well as a biography of Thomas Jefferson. As a side note, the picture below was taken at the Museum of Clean in Pocatello Idaho. Darth Mopper takes his cleaning very seriously.
