Weekly Parent Email – December 10, 2021

December 10, 2021

Each week, we collect Transformational Learning Experiences (or TLEs) from students. There is nothing more satisfying than reading them and knowing that WA / LAU is making a difference in students’ lives. Please read the following examples to warm your heart this holiday season.

“In STEM class, we had to grow seeds in the light and dark. My first seeds didn’t grow, and Mr. Schwager let me have more time to try again. In a message, he said, ‘I trust all that you do.’ That made me feel amazing! I felt like I could do it and my teacher had my back no matter what.” – 8th Grade Student

“I was with some Burgers, and one of my friends told me some things she loved about me. What she said, in particular, were things I viewed as weaknesses. It totally changed how I view myself. I realized the power of giving people sincere, real compliments and what an amazing culture of love and belonging that has been cultivated in this school.” – 10th Grade Student

Sincerely,

Pete Jensen

Executive Director, LAU

How are we doing with our communications? At LAU, we strive to make it easy to find the information you need when you need it. Please take this two-minute survey and let us know how we’re doing. We truly value your feedback and will use it to improve our future communications.

It’s time to order books for the winter semester! Please follow these instructions to order next semester’s books through Amazon using the book list in SIS. We encourage you to order books early to ensure they can be processed and shipped before the Christmas rush.

Announcements

All eighth-graders will automatically be enrolled in a College and Career Awareness course. This course is required by the state of Utah for all eighth-grade students. This self-paced course will automatically show up in your student’s Canvas account and should be completed sometime during the semester. Please contact Shelly Jenkins with any questions.

Upcoming vision screenings: LAU must provide vision screenings for all seventh and ninth-grade students. By default, all seventh and ninth-grade students will be offered screening, but you can opt-out your student by completing this form. Any LAU student can receive a vision screening regardless of grade. If you’d like your student to participate, please register them here. Please reach out to Suzanne Jensen with any questions. Below is a complete schedule of this year’s screenings:

Did your student miss Inspiration Hour last week? Ezat Haddad, a local Jordanian, spoke about the service he is doing with Syrian refugees in Jordan. Click here to watch the recording.
