Weekly Parent Email – October 7, 2022
I’ve enjoyed visiting with many of you these past few weeks. The persistent theme echoed by most parents is the value they place on helping students learn to think for themselves. Our parents are strongly committed to an education that isn’t simply measured by a series of test scores, but rather by the ability of their children to engage in meaningful conversation, to lead themselves and others, and to think on their own. Our parents are actively involved in this educational process and have chosen LAU to support this endeavor.
We want to support you in this effort! A resource you may find helpful is the LAU Student Support Handbook. This resource provides information to help you support your students in developing the needed skills to succeed in their LAU studies. The ideas and information in this handbook are customized to our program and are based on advice from many successful mentors and staff.
Another resource to support parents is the LAU counseling website. They have an academic support section with great information for parents. Our school counselors (Kate Chaney and Shauna Larson) stand ready to provide ideas, support, and resources for our parents and students.
We value our families and realize the unique trust you place in our mentors, staff, and school. I appreciate your continued ideas on how we can become even better as we work together!
Warmest regards,
John Tripp
Executive Director, LAU
