Weekly Parent Update – January 6, 2023

January 6, 2023

I want to express my sincere appreciation for the support, hard work, and dedication you have given your students during this past semester. It has been a joy and a privilege to work with you all. Your enthusiasm and willingness to support your students as they take on new challenges have been inspiring. I am excited to continue our journey together, and I look forward to the wonderful things that will be achieved this semester.

Recently our school was selected to participate in a comprehensive support and improvement program focused on our high school graduation rate. Over the next few months, we will reach out to parents to participate in surveys and focus groups designed to increase our high school graduation rate. This is a great opportunity, and we are excited to get your input.

Once again, thank you for your dedication and hard work. If you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations, don’t hesitate to contact me (john@lautah.org). I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,

John Tripp

Executive Director, Leadership Academy of Utah

Action Items

Consider enrolling your student in our Habits for Student Success class: If your student has been consistently behind in their courses, feels like they can’t keep up, or is anxious about their ability to succeed in the upcoming semester, this four-week class will be a great help to them. If you are interested in this opportunity for your student, please get in touch with Angela Maloy at angela@lautah.org. Classes start January 17, 2023.

Please review the LAU Laptop/Chromebook Handbook: As the semester begins, we encourage all parents and students with LAU laptops/Chromebooks to review the LAU Laptop/Chromebook Handbook to ensure you are meeting all computer use requirements. In short, LAU computer users have agreed to the following:

  • Use computers for academic purposes only.
  • Provide secure home internet and filtering at home or wherever the student computer will be used.
  • Report any computer problems to laptops@lautah.org.
  • Abide by all guidelines found in the LAU Laptop-Chromebook Handbook.

LAU has provided some computer filtering, but we remind parents that no filtering system is perfect. We encourage all parents to provide additional internet security and student supervision. You can find tools and resources for building a secure in-home internet experience for your student in the LAU Student Handbook, the LAU Laptop/Chromebook Handbook, or our Technology Support page.
