At Williamsburg, teachers are called “mentors,” because they will do more than dispense knowledge to you––they will inspire, challenge, listen to, and guide you as you learn how to learn, and as you learn how to lead yourself and others.
We have searched long and hard to find mentors who truly care about our students and are naturally gifted at teaching. If you ask a Williamsburg student to tell you about their mentors, you are likely to hear words like engaging, fun, inspiring, smart, hilarious, crazy, caring, and talented. For many students and families, our mentors are the main attraction of our entire program.
You will spend a lot of time with your mentors each week in class, and this is the main way you will get to know each other. When you want some individual attention or need help with something, you will attend your mentor’s office hour and get 1:1 time. Your mentor will also get to know you through your assignments and will give you lots of personalized feedback. Finally, you and your mentor will communicate with each other via email whenever you need.
At Williamsburg, it’s not likely that you’ll form a deep relationship with all of your mentors, but you’ll probably deeply connect with many of them, and a few may totally change your life.
