Just like our high school courses, Leadership Academy uses the Williamsburg Curriculum for our middle school courses. The Williamsburg Curriculum is an award-winning curriculum used by charter schools like Leadership Academy that was created for education through online classrooms. We use it in our middle school program because it reflects our mission and methods and is adapted to meet the unique needs of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
6th and 7th Grade
The Williamsburg Curriculum recognizes that students in the 6th and 7th grade are usually excited and easily inspired to learn. They are willing to frequently ask for help and answer questions. Courses and projects are designed to take advantage of this energy and curiosity.
Leadership Academy offers a rotating two-year curriculum for students in 6th and 7th grade. The core courses for this level are leadership, math, STEM, and humanities. Since the material, projects, and literature in these courses continually rotate, students can begin to take these courses at any time. Students are all challenged at their own level through mastery-based projects and personalized learning targets.
By the 8th grade, students have become more self-aware and reserved and the Williamsburg Curriculum adapts to their changing needs. In the 8th grade, courses provide students with the chance to develop important public skills and engage in deeper discussions. They are given more responsibility and the freedom to try and face temporary setbacks. Courses and assignments prepare them for high school. The curriculum includes courses in leadership, math, STEM, and humanities, as well as writing courses.
