Concurrent Enrollment at UTU

The following requirements must be met:

• Be enrolled as a full-time student at LAU.
• Be in grades 10-12, and have approval from our school counselor.
• Be on track for high school graduation according to our Graduation Plan in Student Information Services (SIS).
• Have a High School GPA of 3.0
• Fulfill all UTU prerequisites and CE eligibility requirements as outlined on this page.
• Take an Accuplacer Next-Generation test and/or Aleks math test (for MATH 1050 and above) or provide ACT scores if the course requires it. Check the “Prereq” column in the UTU online course list for details.

LAU does not pay for or reimburse any Concurrent Enrollment-related costs for UTU. However, our partnership with the UTU allows LAU students to receive a heavily discounted tuition rate, potentially saving them hundreds or even thousands of dollars on college.

Students are responsible for all UTU expenses, including:

• $5 per credit hour cost of tuition
• $35 Application fee
• Additional fees, supplies, and textbooks

• First-year Concurrent Enrollment students can take up to 2 classes or 6 credits to start.
• Students who have successfully completed Concurrent Enrollment courses previously can take up to 3 classes or 12 credits. 
• Please coordinate with a school counselor to determine the best course load.

LAU students living in Washington County have the option to take online CE courses or in-person CE classes on the UTU campus in St. George. Students outside of Washing County should plan to take online courses only.

Please work directly with UTU to identify which classes are offered in the format that best suits your student.

LAU adheres to state guidelines for converting college credits to high school credits. Please be sure to discuss your student’s academic plan with their LAU school counselor before registering for UTU Concurrent Enrollment courses to ensure their credits will transfer as expected.

Here are the general guidelines we use when converting college credits to high school credits:

1. Early College classes worth 3 to 5 college credits = 1.0 high school credit
2. Early College classes worth 0.5 to 2 college credits = 0.5 high school credits

Your student’s final grades for UTU Concurrent Enrollment courses are recorded on both their high school and college transcripts. If your student does not successfully complete a college course (or withdraws), their final grade of D, F, or W will also be recorded on both transcripts.

Note: To receive high school credit, your student must submit a UTU transcript to LAU after each semester of Concurrent Enrollment classes.

If your student is enrolling in the UTU Concurrent Enrollment program for the first time, they should meet with their LAU school counselor to discuss individual graduation plans and course recommendations.

For students who have previously taken UTU Concurrent Enrollment courses through LAU, this step is optional.

New Concurrent Enrollment applicants will be required to

• Fill out the UTU Concurrent Enrollment application and pay a one-time application fee online.
• Submit an official high school transcript by mail, in-person, or via one of the approved electronic services.
• Once your student is accepted, they will receive an email from UTU and be assigned a Digital ID number.

Note: UTU CE students must reapply to UTU each fall, however, they will not be required to pay the admission fee again.

Students are responsible for meeting UTU registration requirements and must keep track of registration deadlines.

To enroll in a CE course and receive both high school and college credit, students must register for the desired course(s) with both LAU and UTU.

Log in to your SIS parent account, then use the Registration tab under My Students to select their UTU courses.

Concurrent enrollment students do not register the same way traditional UTU college students do. Students should register for classes by contacting the UTU enrollment team directly by email or phone. 

• If registering by email, UTU will reply via email if a seat is available, then register your student accordingly.
• Log in to the UTU Main Campus link with your student’s Digital ID number to view course details. Anything labeled as section 40-49 is an online course.
• Once registered, students can view their classes in their My UT account.

Students should work with their assigned LAU school counselor to ensure that the UTU courses they select also meet LAU high school graduation requirements.
