Middle School Registration

As listed in the table below, we have multiple deadlines for registration depending on the time of year. You will only be able to access registration after your student has been accepted at LAU; registration for the next upcoming fall and winter semesters typically opens on the first Monday in February.

Please note: Students who are not registered within the timeframes listed above will be at risk of losing their spot at LAU. To help avoid this, we’ll email you a registration reminder as soon as your student’s application is approved.

No, students can’t register for themselves in SIS. Only parents have access to the Registration tab from their SIS parent account.

Yes, registration for admitted students is on a first-come, first-served basis. We have a limited number of seats in all courses, and we do not reserve seats for returning students. However, we always notify current families when registration opens for a new semester.

Yes. If needed, you can add, swap, or remove courses from your child’s schedule up to 28 days after the start of each semester.

No, all students must register full-time at LAU. Students in middle school must register for at least 4 classes (including a minimum of 2 core classes) to be considered full-time.

Yes, in some cases. If you have an advanced student in 8th grade, you can request permission from our registrar to enroll them in a high school math, writing, or foreign language course. Middle school students who take high school math or foreign language can receive high school credit (pending approval from LAU).

Core classes at LAU include all Leadership, Language Arts, Social Studies (a.k.a. Humanities), Science, and Math courses.

The following courses are required to be taken by all 7th and 8th graders in Utah. Please note that the Williamsburg courses in parentheses satisfy these state requirements.

Yes, our middle school Humanities courses are offered in both Classic and Honors versions. Students in both versions meet in the same live class sessions, but Honors students complete roughly 30% more work. You can select either the Classic or Honors version when you register your child for these courses in SIS.

Whenever possible, we recommend taking live-online courses over self-paced courses for the best academic experience and results. Self-paced courses should be selected only if necessary.

*8th grade students are automatically enrolled in this course for their winter semester.

We offer middle school Independent Studies courses in Math, Fine Arts, P.E., College & Career Awareness, and through our Funded Independent Elective course option. To learn which Independent Studies courses to select for your student, please contact our Independent Studies & Funded Electives Coordinator.

Please note: All Independent Studies courses must be approved by our Independent Studies & Funded Electives Coordinator to ensure they meet state requirements.

Our Second Language courses are designed for high school students and offered for high school credit. Students in grades 6-8 can enroll in these courses, but might not be prepared for the additional workload. If you feel your middle school student can successfully complete a self-paced, high-school-level language course, please contact an LAU school counselor for approval.

No, we do not offer summer classes. If your student is in need of credit recovery, please contact a school counselor. 

Once your student is registered, all that’s left is preparing for the first day of school! To help with this, we highly encourage you to review our How to Prepare for School page and On-Demand Parent Orientation videos. We’ll also email you and your student with information about student orientation assignments they will need to complete in Canvas (our online learning management system).

Please note: All course selections are reviewed and approved by LAU’s school counselors. We will let you know if any of your student’s courses need to be adjusted.
