Weekly Parent Update

January 23, 2026

Action Items

Open Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is open! This is the best time to secure your student’s spot at Leadership Academy of Utah (LAU), as students are not automatically re-enrolled each year. Applications are required for both new and returning families, so if your student plans to return, be sure to submit a Returning Student Application in SIS as soon as possible. For more information, visit our Admissions & Enrollment web page.

Note: If LAU exceeds its maximum number of applications during Open Enrollment, all returning students will be admitted, while new students will go through our lottery process.

Announcements

World Language Courses Update: Starting Fall 2026, LAU will transition from Self-Paced to Live World Language courses only. Live courses will include Spanish 1 & 2, Japanese 1 & 2, and French 1 & 2. Self-Paced courses—including Spanish, French, Russian, Japanese, and German through Rosetta Stone—will remain available through the end of Summer 2026. Please take a moment to review how this change may impact your student and adjust enrollment plans as needed.

Parent Mentor Conferences and Updates Now Available Anytime: We’ve removed the scheduled once-a-semester Parent Mentor Conference and Update (PMC and PMU) week to give you more flexibility. Now, you can reach out to your student’s mentor directly anytime in SIS—no need to wait for a specific week! This change gives you faster access to support when your student truly needs it.

To message your student’s mentor in SIS:

  1. Go to the ‘My Students’ tab in the Personal Menu.

  2. Select your student and open the ‘Classes’ tab.

  3. Click your student’s mentor in the ‘Mentor’ column.

  4. Type your message and click ‘Send Message’—that’s it!

Upcoming State Testing: As a public charter school, LAU participates in required state testing each spring. To help you and your student plan for upcoming testing, we’ve created this 2025-26 Testing Schedule. Please review this schedule and help your student balance their coursework accordingly on the weeks they will be testing. If you have questions or concerns about your student testing, please contact our Assessment Director, Ashley Cabrera.

January Mental Health Minute: This month’s Mental Health Minute shares mental health tips highlighting the benefits of staying positive and optimistic. This resource is also available to students in the LAU Hub. Take a few minutes to explore it with your student and focus on the power of positivity!
